Characterization of beech wood pulp towards sustainable rapid prototyping

    Get PDF
Wood has several advantages that are transferable to various derivates allowing the introduction of a sustainable material into the product lifecycle. The objective of this paper is to apply a design for manufacturing approach based on wood flour rapid prototyping, while associating the requirements of the ‘mass customisation’ in the implementation of a customised product. New collaborative software allows consumers to be involved in the design process. Prototyping processes allow direct manufacturing of products

Identification produit-procédés pour une conception proactive: application à la fonderie

    Get PDF

FESTivE: an information system method to improve product designers and environmental experts information exchanges

    Get PDF
Effective collaboration between product designers and environmental experts is an important driver for the ecodesign practice in industry. This paper investigates the principal functions required for such an e ective collaboration and aims at facilitating them. Product designers should be able to integrate the environmental parameters into their activities, and to exchange information dynamically with the environmental expert whenever needed during the design process. Therefore, the IT system should be in itself dynamic and exible to the integration of new concepts (knowledge, software). Recent developments in Model Driven Engineering (MDE) are showing some interesting results to gain exibility and dynamism in the IT system. Combining software interoperability using model federation based on MDE with the speci city of ecodesign practice in industry this paper proposes the FESTivE method for Federate EcodeSign Tool modEls. Experimented in two different industrial contexts the practical feasibility of FESTivE has been validated with practitioners. Results on the e ects of using FESTivE in industry shows that product designers and environmental experts are more equipped to anticipate and to respond to each other's needs at each stage of the design process of product or service

Analytical modeling of rotor-structure coupling using modal decomposition for the structure and the blades.

    Get PDF
This paper presents a linear semi-analytical model that is able to predict complex rotor-structure coupling phenomena and their stability. It was primarily designed so as to gain a better physical understanding of this kind of aeroelastic instabilities, triggering at higher frequencies than air and ground resonance, and involving several blade and structure modes. The analytical approach has a two-fold advantage since fast parametric studies can be carried out and a term-by-term analysis of the helicopter stability equations can be performed. In order to represent the elasticity of the structure and the blades, a modal decomposition method is introduced. The modal basis for the structure can either be obtained by a Finite Element Method or rigid degrees of freedom can be inputted. For the blades, a preliminary finite element routine is run, allowing for varying characteristics along the span. Blade offsets are introduced, and an unsteady aerodynamic model is implemented. The modal basis of the coupled system is then computed and a partial validation is done with HOST (Helicopter Overall Simulation Tool), a comprehensive aeroelastic code. Except for the built-in twist and the non-circulatory terms which are taken in a different manner in HOST and the presented model, the linearization results are similar. Future work using this model includes investigation of the helicopter stability thanks to parametric studies

CoDE: a Co-operative Design Environment. A new generation of CAD systems

    Get PDF
International audienceAccording to conceptual changes on design methodology, this paper presents some research results on a new generation of CAD systems. This new software has not to be used to achieve automatic design tasks at all. On the contrary, it has to make part of an integrated design environment.A co-operative design modeller is then presented as a support for co-operative and integrated design methodology in this design environment. It mainly allows every design actors to share a unique database owing to a formal exchange network. The modeller provides a graphic interface to add, edit or modify data. Moreover the modeller manages the shared database in order to realise heavy design tasks as data propagation or data coherence management. The presented modeller takes place in the global design environment connected to specific applications based on specific design tasks (process planning, structure analysis). An informal communication network worthwhile in any design group including human actors also assists the co-operative design modeller

A Predictive-reactive Approach for JSP with Uncertain Processing Times

The paper is supported by the Asia-Link project funded by the European Commission (CN/ASIA-LINK/024 (109093)), the National Natural Science Foundation of China (50705076, 50705077), and the National Hi-Tech R&D Program of China (2007AA04Z187)JSP with discretely controllable processing times (JSP-DCPT) that are perturbed in a turbulent environment is formulated, based on which, a time-cost tradeoff based predictive-reactive scheduling approach is proposed for solving the problem. In the predictive scheduling process, on the basis of a proposed three-step decomposition approach for solving JSP-DCPT, a solution initialization algorithm is presented by incorporating a hybrid algorithm of tabu search and simulated annealing and a fast elitist non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm; in the reactive scheduling process, Pareto-optimal schedules are generated, among which every schedule that is not dominated by any initial schedule can be selected as the responding schedule so as to maintain optimality of the objective that is to minimize both the makespan and the cost. Experimental simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach
